We are now recruiting for a Shift Supervisor at our Seaham site to lead the production team ensuring the highest possible output at the lowest achievable cost and ensure delivery of short and long term operational KPIs in Health & Safety, Quality, Hygiene and Housekeeping, Cost and People Development.

Main tasks and responsibilities

1. Educate and direct team to support and encourage a Health & Safety culture in which the safety of the team and individuals is always the primary focus.

2. Food safety and Quality must be maintained at the highest level delivering excellence by ensuring conformance with product specification and maintenance of process control and associated documentation.

3. The site has a clean as you go policy and this must be maintained at all times to eliminate risk of slips, trips and falls and product contamination. Ensure individual responsibilities are met in this area.

4. Control of costs requires continuous review of product quality and operator performance in the factory to eliminate unnecessary waste.

5. Review of team skills using your knowledge of individuals and resulting training is essential for team development to enable the team to meet Kgs per planned hour target.

6. Planning and close control of shift staffing level is required to meet Kgs per man hr.

7. The team require support and encouragement from their Leaders especially at local level making your constant presence on the factory floor in close proximity to process and people an essential ingredient in nourishing team success.

8. Complete all reports accurately and in a timely manner.

9. Take the initiative in looking for improvements in process and plant to enhance performance ensuring that changes are shared for the benefit of the entire site.

10. Communication and teamwork with support functions including planning, technical and logistics is critical to performance of the manufacturing team. You must develop close working relationships with these teams ensuring clear communication at all times.

11. Enforce and manage in compliance with company policies, procedures e.g. wearing of Personal Protective Clothing (PPE) ,Return To Work Interviews (RTW), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and statutory regulations.

12. Resolve conduct issues and following HR advice, issue documented disciplinary actions where appropriate

13. Manage performance with integrity and where required initiate performance management of individuals communicating clear expectations along with deadlines and support. This must be documented and advice should be sought from HR in all cases.

14. Team and individual effort, hard work and results should be recognised in an appropriately to enhance team morale and self esteem.

15. Provide cover for the Production Manager as and when required and develop willing key individuals as part of your succession plan.

You will work closely with the Production Manager and lead, manage and develop the team to deliver excellence. You will demonstrate an energetic and positive 'can do' approach to 'hands-on' management, and take ownership of the team and lead the drive towards World Class Manufacturing with Mission Foods.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • To work with multi manufacturing site and multi-channel (Retail and OOH)

  • To work with multi products - wraps, naan, pitta, chips, kits, flatbreads

  • Working with Process Technologists, Packaging Technologist, and Project Delivery Managers

  • Be the 'go to person' for Recipe & Process solutions

  • Product Shelf life needs to be focused within recipe/ingredient development

  • That product proposals have a  sound efficient/technical feasibility while working  with machine capabilities

  • Ensuring recipes are cost neutral, or have cost benefits when developing – whilst ensuring that the targets of the customer's brief are met

  • To ensure all recipes are validated within NPD process e.g. Palm Removal project would be instigated by this function, then would be handover once validated, in alignment with other departments i.e. Technical

  • All projects adhere to UK NPD Process and document approvals before moving to the next development stage

  • Each project is supported by an assigned and committed project team of functional specialists

  • To develop a programme of continuous improvement with regard to choice of materials, suppliers, costs, line impacts, etc. Generate Cost Reduction ideas. Working with operations in line with machine capabilities

  • Review and management of current or new processes to achieve- Cost reduction & Process efficiencies

  • A continual monitoring process is in place in order to keep plans on track and spot/rectify issues

  • Act as a facilitator between both UK & EU sites to ensure shared recipes, process & Best Practice. “Pulling both sites together”. To improve recipe functionality

  • Liaising with US Colleagues in terms of keeping abreast of industry developments what might help UK factories

Responsible for delivering savings to the business through the effective procurement of goods and services. Manage the tactical purchasing / scheduling team. Reporting to the Head of Procurement and Planning.

Procurement has responsibility for purchasing of Raw Materials, Packaging and Utilities for manufacturing sites in the UK and Netherlands. The scheduling remit is for the UK sites.

Identify and deliver savings to the business by coordinating cost optimisation projects and through effective procurement of raw materials, packaging and other goods and services.

Develop and implement purchasing strategies for selected categories, initiate tenders and manage supplier relationships.

Line manage the tactical purchasing / scheduling team to ensure that materials are available to meet the production requirements in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Procurement / Cost Savings
- Deliver annual cost savings in line with business targets through effective project development and implementation
- Identify cost saving and efficiency opportunities across the business by analysing current spend and developing procurement strategies and workplans
- Communicate with internal stakeholders to ensure support and input into projects
- Develop and implement tenders, negotiate commercial terms and agree contracts for selected material categories in line with corporate policies and through communication with legal
- Liaise with Technical, NPD and Production to ensure that specifications for RFPs / tenders meet business requirements and are compliant with all relevant legislation and policies

Manage Purchasing / Schedulers
- Coordinate team resources to ensure effective delivery of objectives:
- materials are available for production as required, taking into account material lead times and forecasted requirements
- that optimum order quantities are maintained based on forecasted requirements
- that Mission / supplier stocks of materials within agreed levels
- action taken to address supplier performance issues via regular review meetings and appropriate communications. Where necessary take action to escalate issues, either internally or with suppliers
- commercial terms for raw materials and packaging materials accurately maintained in SAP.  -
ensure that all price changes are fully documented with appropriate sign-off and that the interests of Mission foods are protected.
- supplier invoice queries are minimised by ensuring that purchase orders and commercial terms are accurate and well controlled and that suppliers follow agreed procedures
- develop and maintain relationships with key personnel within the business and ensure that communication takes place at appropriate frequency and level. Includes NPD, Finance, Logistics, Planning, Operations and Technical
- First point of escalation for day to day supply issues
- Responsible for performance appraisals and ensuring your team deliver, perform and achieve targets

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will be providing a proactive approach to the prevention of equipment failure and ensuring the schedule PM is carried out as planned.. • Carry out work assignments issued by Lead engineer and maximize effectiveness of the shift at all times by ensuring efficient completion of tasks
• Demonstrate a team approach with regard to maintenance and hygiene of equipment and support (teams of) operators
• Provide support to the team during breaks and absences and work together to ensure completion of their duties
• Follow all work instructions, procedures, job descriptions at all times.
• Ensure that all Work Orders, PM's issued to the shift are completed.
• Complete all necessary paper work
• Work with other functions as part of the manufacturing team to ensure efficient running of the equipment and carry out prioritized work as agreed

• Provide the Lead Engineer with information on all engineering downtime attended on shift,, related quality issue, work orders completed, PM's completed and other details as required.

• Ensure remedial works to equipment raised by work order or PM's are highlighted to the Lead engineer

The primary aim of this role is Primary aim is to use understanding of Consumers, Markets, Trends, Insights, and Brands to develop quality innovative new Branded Products, which are market leading, for the business. The role encompasses certain aspects of the NPD process from concept to launch, including: blue sky innovation, commercial viability, cost reduction, costings, competitor benchmarking and consumer panel testing. Key to the role is for new and improved Branded product launches to be on budget and on time.

Main tasks and responsibilities
• Working on a number of high profile Branded initiatives for new and existing business, you will be expected to proactively create NPD activities for the Brand
• To work multi manufacturing site and multi-channel (Retail and OOH)
• To work with multi products - wraps, naan, pitta, chips, kits, flatbreads and any products via co – packers
• Working closely with various departments including, Marketing, Sales, Technical, Purchasing, and Manufacturing, as well as external suppliers and other manufactures
• Ensuring the concepts of critical paths and NPD gate system is adhered to
• Co- ordinate regular product development meetings to taste and evaluate product from within the market place
• Completion of raw material forms, gathering prices for samples and all information relating to the new products
• Attend/oversee Brand production trials and first factory production runs
• Recipe management – keeping accurate recipe information throughout the entire concept/ NPD gate system and critical path. Ensuring there is a full historical trail for each concept, product and associated shelf life testing
• Support Project Delivery Manager with customer presentations; including collation of paperwork, and sample preparation
• Liaison with Purchasing and Technical colleagues if a new supplier or material is required
• Ensure smooth progression to launch, ensuring product meets all required food safety parameters, completion and evaluation of Food Safety testing parameters, and the compilation of product specifications in required format
• Working closely with Process Team to ensure concept ideas have the required synergy within existing operational process – also to ensure new ingredients are suitable within existing process – liaising with Ingredient/Process Manager/Technical if new supplier/ingredient is required. The latter also with synergy to Project Delivery Manager to ensure information is collated info for Product Information forms for initial submissions

Qualifications and skills required
• Qualified to Degree level in either Food Science/ Food Technology or closely related subject or comparable work experience
• Brand awareness with a solid NPD background
• Marketing awareness would be very advantageous, along with a good understanding of consumers, markets and the role of Brands
• Good knowledge of product launch requirements would be useful
• Previous experience in food manufacture – chef/innovation background

• Ensure remedial works to equipment raised by work order or PM's are highlighted to the Engineering Manager
• Oversee weekend work schedule completion and supervise contractors while on site.
• Ensure compliance of “Permit to Work' system at weekends/nights by all employees/contractors
• Advise teams on a continuous basis with regard to simple maintenance and/or continuous improvement.

Qualifications and skills required:
• Previous food processing (automated) industry experience highly desirable
• Electrical and/or mechanical qualifications/time served apprenticeship.
