Health, Safety & Welfare
The health, safety and welfare of our colleagues is paramount and you must promote and support a safe working environment and nourish a culture of “safety first”.
•Ensure the working environment, equipment, plant and people meet with legislative and internal health and safety standards at all times.
•Where hazards are identified and risk levels are deemed unacceptable immediate action must be taken by you to remove the hazard or where this is not possible reduce the risk to acceptable levels.
•Complete risk assessments according to scheduled requirements or as required where circumstances, equipment or people change from previously agreed standards. Close out actions generated from these assessments immediately should the risk/s be unacceptable or as directed by the Senior Management team otherwise.
•Ensure safe systems of work, standard operating procedures and health safety requirements as documented under the Mission (UK) Health, Safety and Welfare Manual are followed at all times. Where practices have moved on or where improvements are possible, report these to the Production Manager in good time for consideration.
•Support and drive the business accident prevention initiatives through the reporting of potential accidents through the Near Miss Reporting tool by you and your team.
•Where accidents do occur ensure immediate and unambiguous action is taken, following the Accident Reporting Procedure. Complete a thorough documented investigation using the accident report form and in the case of a major incident the Major Incident Procedure must be followed.
•Better or meet the business Health & Safety targets, within your team and across the production group, of risk assessment completion, Near Miss Reporting and Accidents recorded.

Food Safety & legality
Maintaining the integrity of our products and therefore the business itself is an absolute. You must ensure this is always the case as we never knowingly compromise product safety.
•Be certain that product safety and hygiene requirements meet both internal specification and HACCP requirements at all times.
•Maintain the required high standard of housekeeping and GMP at all times.
•Where an incident does occur ensure immediate and unambiguous action is taken, following the Shift Manager Incident Decision Tree. Complete a thorough documented investigation ensuring the status and precise location of all affected material or product is known.

In the pursuit of excellence you must strive for the highest possible standards of quality in our products, people and plant.
•Ensure all products meet the requirements of the internal specifications and are produced in line with the Quality Management System. Communicate any necessary amendments or deviations to the Technical Department.
•Ensure all process monitoring requirements are completed in good time and to the required standards.
•Liaise with Technical on customer complaint and audit details to ensure your team is aware of any trends or concerns and is acting to prevent any further re-occurrence.
•Highlight any material quality issues to the QA on shift to ensure appropriate action is taken to assess the impact on finished product quality before it is used on a documented deviation or placed on hold.
•Ensure a strong and open working relationship is maintained with your shift QA to be confident of high technical standards on your team and reduce the likelihood of product safety or quality failures.
•Better or meet the business Product Safety & Quality targets, within your team and across the production group, of required pass marks for internal & external audits and customer complaint reduction.

People / Structure / Team Development
You must provide nourishment for your people to ensure our success in achieving customer, business and individual targets.
•To appraise and develop your team to ensure they have a clear understanding of the expectations of their role in the business. To identify skill gaps in existing staff skills to ensure training offered leads to optimum flexibility and adequate holiday / absence cover within and across production teams.
•Where opportunity lies for improving team or individual performance you are to provide mentoring and / or coaching as required, within a structured framework & to a documented outcome in line with business procedures.
•Report all absence daily to the HR team. Monitor and act upon absence within your team to ensure every support is offered to those away from work to aid their rehabilitation and the quickest possible return to their duties. Identify and act upon any trends.
•Resolve conflict & ensure all people issues are dealt with within the correct procedure and employment legislation, and to have disciplinary authority up to and including dismissal.

Good quality communications at the right time will ensure the proximity of all the people within the business and make certain we are all pulling together in the right direction.
•Complete a shift handover with the oncoming Shift Manager covering the following as relates to your completed shift; Health & Safety highlights, product safety or quality issues, performance of your team & line status to plan, details of plan and plan changes, specific instructions from the Senior team, material changes (planned or enforced), trials to be undertaken and your audit results (to prevent repeat failures).
•As you come onto shift ensure you communicate the details within the shift handover to your Team Leaders and set out yours and their targets for the shift. Provide support to the Team Leader in cascading this information to the rest of the team and validate the quality of the briefings by sampling feedback from your line supervision.
•Attend the monthly Shift Manager Meeting and be prepared to discuss your teams performance against the production KPI targets and the actions taken by your team to correct failings and improve attainment. Also provide updates on any projects allocated to you or your team, staff development & training updates and opportunities to consider or support concerns.
•Maintain proximity with the support functions of engineering, hygiene, technical and warehouse to harness the wider team in delivering your targets.
•Provide the detail necessary for full and complete reporting of the performance of your team on a daily basis via the provided KPI tools and SAP, as well as through the Production Manager.

Planning & Control
You must maintain a structured approach to the delivery of the production plan and the business targets as the operation is FMCG and second chances to get it right are rare.
•Effective preparation to meet the production plan and wherever possible effectively 'early warn' against future problems and issues whilst identifying solutions.
•Co-ordinate changeovers and the lead in to shutdowns across the lines to ensure plans are delivered whilst providing the time necessary for planned maintenance and hygiene activities.
•Attend the daily planning meeting (dayshift only) to communicate opportunities in the plan to maximise efficiencies and reduce planned changeovers.

Cost & Efficiencies
As head of a production team the effect you have on the profitability of the business is almost unrivalled. Standards must be met consistently to achieve the cost base necessary to continue our growth.
•Ensure effective cost control through best use of all resources including raw and packaging materials, labour, minimisation of waste and maximisation of machine efficiency.
•Stringent adherence to all systems & procedures adopted by your team. Early identification of ineffective procedures with proposed solutions. Ensure all relevant documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
•Actively promote improvement activities to increase the Overall Equipment Efficiency of your lines. Attend the Root Cause Meeting (dayshift only) to provide feedback from your team on efficiency opportunities and to involve you and your team in problem solving activities.
•To provide continuous improvement you will be required to put forward project suggestions for process and cost improvements. In most cases you will provide leadership for these and co-ordinate activities and feedback on success.
•Ensure labour standards are met at all times and provide a daily cost analysis of the labour used on each of your shifts.
•Quantify and justify any material over usage experienced by your team on a daily basis.

Control Systems Engineer NEW

Reporting to the Engineering Manager the successful candidate will assist the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Manager in the management of the site by providing a multi skilled engineering service. This will include the on-going and extensive capital investment programme as well as the day to day maintenance activities in order to ensure legislative compliance and plant reliability.

To implement best practice & support Site & Business strategies through the development & involvement of team & individuals, ensuring achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) through continuous improvement. Maintenance of the fabric of the building, all support plant and production machinery.

Drive Capital Projects varying in size and complexity from conception through commissioning to handover to the production team.

Manage Maintenance Improvement Projects including Root Cause Analysis, Costings, Planning, and Delivery to handover.

To ensure the site Drawing Register and Drawings are managed, controlled and modified to ensure an accurate and reliable source of information.

Maintain and Develop the CMMS System for the Site (Front Line).

Manage and Maintain the Site Software Back Up's and manages any obsolescence across the Site to ensure that all systems remain serviceable at all times.

Implement and manage a Control of Change Systems for Engineering Works across the site.

Document all legislative compliance requirements for the site and ensure these are correctly recorded on the Maintenance Management System.

Complete 'Permit to Work' system when appropriate

To deputise for the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Manager as required.

Identify and propose Plant / Equipment improvements to ensure continuous improvement of Plant performance.

Identify and propose Capital Expenditure Proposals that could provide cost savings or increased performance to the business.

Observe & apply all Health & Safety policies & procedures.

Ensure all statutory testing is carried out in line with EU & UK legislation

Manage contractors in line with company Management of Contractors procedure.

Observe and apply all Quality policies & procedures.

Ensure that quality of products meet or exceed customer expectations.

Use root cause analysis to continuously reduce factory downtime.

Support factory audits and visits.
